How do I connect to the CAEN Linux Login/VNC servers from my personal Linux computer?

CAEN provides the VNC client for Windows and Mac OS, but there is currently no client available for Linux. Individuals with computers running Linux must use their local versions of ssh and vncviewer to connect.

First, type the following:

ssh -f -L 5951:localhost:5951 uniqname@login-course-2fa.engin.umich.edu "sleep 30"

where uniqname is your U-M uniqname. See this knowledge base article for more information on connecting to the VNC servers via SSH.

Then, you can connect to the local ssh-tunneled VNC port by typing:

vncviewer localhost:5951
