What should I know about the VMAP license?

The software covered by the VMware Academic Program (VMAP) license is only available to College of Engineering students and faculty, and is restricted to instructional or research use defined as:

  • Instruction – Faculty within the College of Engineering may gain access to VMAP for the purpose of classroom instruction. Students taking at least one College of Engineering course may also install program software on their personal computers for use with their coursework.
  • Research – Faculty within the College of Engineering may gain access to VMAP as a part of their non-commercial research projects. Program software may be installed on research lab computers, as well as on the personal computers of faculty and students for use on non-commercial research projects.

Obtaining & Using VMAP Software:

  • Students must be taking at least one for-credit academic course within the College of Engineering during the current term, or be performing non-commercial research for the College, in order to use the software under this license.
  • Faculty must be teaching a College of Engineering course, or be doing non-commercial research for the College, in order to use software under this license.
  • In order to meet licensing requirements and not risk loss of access for all eligible users, CAEN must disable access to anyone who no longer meets the criteria described above.
  • Students and faculty who leave the College may continue to use software from this license that was installed on their machines prior to their departure.
  • U-M email addresses (uniqname@umich.edu) serve as login IDs (account information is emailed to these addresses).
  • By using the software available through this licensing program, students and faculty are agreeing to be bound by the terms of the program usage guidelines. Refer to the VMAP end-user license agreement for more information.

Software distribution is done through the Kivuto Solutions OnTheHub WebStore. Information on the software available through the VMAP license can be obtained on the VMAP Home Page.
